Collective thoughts….

Human thoughts carry immense power, power so strong that it can bring about a change. A simple thought can be far stronger than a bullet or a nuke. Strange? Well it’s not exactly a proven fact but human thoughts have definitely brought about changes at many instants of time. A very recent example was the “anti-corruption drive” led by Anna Hazare. Mr. Hazare was actually successful because of a massive shift in the psyche of the people. If I recall correctly, at that time many people came out to support this drive and there was a huge drive that was largely supported by the young people. This made the shift in the thinking possible. The government was definitely not in favor of the drive initially but the slow but steady growth in the number of people led to this change.
Human mind has the power to cure diseases. It has the power to bring change, make the impossible happen. But for all this to occur, it needs the power of collective thoughts. Collective thoughts have the power to bring about change and make miracles happen.
Long back, I read a Turkish folktale, wherein the king of country goes to visit his rival country. There he asks the king about the reason for his long life. The king shows him a tree and tells him that when the leaves on the tree become dry and brown, he will reveal his secret. He asks the rival country’s king about the tree, but the king asks him to wait and watch. The king grew impatient and looking up at the tree wished that the leaves dried out. A few weeks later he saw that the leaves actually dry out. He was ecstatic, and rushed out to meet the king. The king came and saw the tree. Sighing, he said, “Well I guess I must tell you my secret. But first tell me, what did you think when you saw the tree.” The king replied, “I actually thought when the leaves will dry out.” “Well, now they have. So did you learn my secret of staying alive for so long?” The king looked perplexed. Then the rival king explained, “Well my friend, the leaves dried because you willed them to dry out. If you had thought otherwise then the reverse would have happened. Your thoughts actually made the event happen. Similarly, since the people in my country are happy, they wish me good health and thus I have lived for so long.” The king stood stunned and realized his folly.
This story is just a small example of how important a man’s thoughts are to his collective well being.  If a man thinks happy thoughts he will remain happy and vice versa. That’s why expectant women are advised to have pure thoughts. The new-age mantra of increasing your will power or the ‘sages’ who preach the art and style of staying happy, is actually an arcane concept. There are so many examples of mind winning over body. People like Helen Keller, Beethoven, and Sudha Chandran etc are definite examples of mind winning over body. If their minds were weak, then they never would have been able to achieve success and fame in their lives. More close to young generation would be Rick Allen, the drummer of Def Leppard, who is still going strong even after losing one hand in a freak accident. Also worth mentioning would be the legends like Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder who inspite of being blind have created a niche place in the world of music. World has seen many more such examples.
Finally let me end with something that might make you think. Scientific experiments have found that human thoughts can change matter and cause physical changes. So now’s probably a good time to start thinking; positive or negative depends on you.
